Winter is the season for raclette and watching good Netflix movies under a blanket. But we know that deep down (yes, even you Lille mulleins) between two episodes of your favorite series, you feel a real call of nature. So we suggest you put on your best down jacket , grab some stylish mittens and go try out outdoor activities around Lille. Yes, even below zero, we promise, it'll be fun (and your raclette will be waiting for you nice and warm when you get back).

We have listed 5 ideas for activities to try this winter near Lille to brave the cold, get your heart rate up and create memorable memories.

1. Fatbiking on snow (…or mud)

⏱ Driving time: approximately 20min.

If you feel like your city bike is no match for the soggy terrain of Hauts-de-France, say hello to the fatbike. With its big all-terrain tires, it can tackle snow, mud, and even the cobblestones of Lille (good luck). Head to the Monts des Flandres or the Mormal forest for a little frosty ride. And if there's no snow, don't panic: mud is fun too. For muule warriors only.

Muule's little tip : a very warm hat which stays in place even when you go down the ball slopes and of course competition gloves .

2. The night hike

Driving time: approximately 20min.

Because winter is also the magic of long nights (and let's not lie to ourselves, the sun sets at 4 p.m.), why not try a night hike? Grab a good pair of hiking shoes and set off to explore the trails of the Parc de la Deûle or the Phalempin forest . Mysterious atmosphere guaranteed, especially if you come across a deer or two in the dark.

The little Muule tip : a headlamp that shines really well is THE essential gear for a night out worthy of a real muule. And the right thermos , something to sip a hot drink in the middle of the chilly night.

3. Dog hiking

If you have a dog that is full of energy (yes, even in winter), why not try cani-rando? Attach your furball to a special belt and let him pull you on the snowy (or muddy, again) trails. If you don't have a dog, no worries: mushers in the region lend their little Huskies for the occasion. It's a bit like cross-country skiing, but in a ch'ti version.

Muule's little tip : good quality gloves to hold the leash, even when your dog decides to run like crazy. A great fleece and winter après-ski/hiking shoes for a total look of dog breeder muules.

4. Skating... at home

Ok, we're cheating a little when it comes to outdoor activities. But it's hard to resist the call of ice just a stone's throw from home. Whether you're a skating pro or a fan of "I'm going but I'm scared", the temporary ice rinks in Lille and its surroundings are a must for a little ice rink trip. We're of course talking about the Serge Charles ice rink , the must-see spot for Lille residents, but also the little gems hidden in the four corners of the city: the Villeneuve-d'Ascq ice rink, or the Roubaix ice rink.

The little Muule tip : a multifunctional neck warmer that covers well, because ice invigorates, but we prefer to avoid small colds. And good warm and waterproof pants (because we do not question your level of crazy on skates…but a fall can happen so quickly).

5. The white trail

For running enthusiasts, winter is THE perfect time to get off the beaten track. The Flanders Mountains (again) offer an incredible setting for a white trail. We'll paint a picture for you: the snow crunches under your feet, the air is pure and your cheeks take on a beautiful brick red hue. We also recommend the trails near the Marais de Fretin for a super cool family walk.

The little Muule tip : warm technical socks to keep your toes alive until the end of
the race. And a crazy baselayer , because it’s still the basis for a trail runner.

So, Lille muelles, are you ready to brave the cold?

No need to go to the ends of the earth to have fun in winter. With these outdoor activities near Lille, you'll love moving in the great outdoors, even when the thermometer flirts with zero. And remember to take some competitive gear to face the big cold (because it's the Noooord after all), always in style of course.

And if you really miss the powder, ride 5:30 a.m. to arrive at the first ski resorts in the Vosges .

Come on, Lille muules, let's get moving. Raclette is even crazier after the effort. 😉
