Where to go ski touring around Grenoble?

Grenoble and its surroundings are the ultimate playground for outdoor epicureans. Nestled at the gateway to the Alps, crazy snowy areas await you just a stone's throw from the city.

We thought you might want to stretch your legs after work or go on an adventure for a day with friends. ski touring is THE solution for impromptu wild escapades. But you still need to know where to put your spatulas to find the perfect powder and above all, ride safely.

We're going to explore the best spots around Grenoble with you for a good dose of nature.

1. Chamechaude - The essential

Chamechaude is THE iconic summit of the Chartreuse massif. A great classic of ski touring that is worth it, with crazy views! We could even talk about a small local Everest… Yes, don't be fooled by the crowds that parade here in all weathers because some very exposed passages can be surprising, especially when the snow is really hard…

Muule little tip : remember to equip yourself well. For a climb like this, breathable layers and a light down jacket for the descent are essential. For an ultra-stylish hiker look…but ready to face the cold.

2. Chamrousse - For sportsmen in a hurry

Are you in a hurry and still want to take in the sights? Head to the Croix de Chamrousse ! This is a spot that can be reached in 30 minutes by car from Grenoble (or 1 hour 15 minutes by bus depending on the tourist office which also tested the expedition). This Belledonne classic offers a quick and pleasant climb for those who want to get going with a minimum of effort. A nice descent in the forest and hop, it's done.

Little Muule tip : for chilly muules, don't forget waterproof layers. A good A lightweight backpack with water bladder and skin storage is also a must.

3. Le Grand Colon - For lovers of panoramas

Impossible to miss this rounded summit which dominates Grenoble. In the Belledonne massif , experienced muules love this corner for its incredible view of the city and the Chartreuse. The climb is physical, but once up there, you enjoy a crazy panorama .

Muule's little tip : to hurtle down the slopes with complete peace of mind, remember your safety kit (DVA, shovel, probe). Given the level, make sure you have sturdy skis and bindings.

4. The Taillefer - For warriors

If you want to surpass yourself, Taillefer is the place for you. This ski touring spot is more technical , ideal for intrepid muules ready to face challenges. It's long, it's physical, and it's wonderful. But be careful, prepare yourself for breathtaking landscapes!

Little Muule tip : think about hiking poles lightweight, perfect for accompanying you on climbs without weighing you down too much. Also take something to hydrate yourself with and a good Swiss army knife for minor mishaps.

5. The Moucherotte - The relaxation option

For a more peaceful outing, without (too much) sweat, head for the Vercors and the Moucherotte. A great spot for beginners, or for those who are a little rusty after a long season without powder. A rather gentle climb, with one of the most beautiful views of Grenoble and its mountains. Perfect for those who like to take it easy.

Little Muule tip : opt for gloves warm but breathable and don't forget your thermos of tea (or hot chocolate, for the epicureans of the team).
